State Fair says it’s here to stay, investing millions in new Fair Park headquarters

by admin August 4, 2026

The State Fair of Texas is making a permanent statement about its future in Dallas with the construction of a brand new administrative headquarters right in the heart of Fair Park. With a price tag of roughly 15 million dollars funded entirely by the nonprofit organization, the project serves as a symbolic anchor for an institution that views the sprawling 277 acre campus as its forever home. According to Fair president Mitch Glieber, the move is necessary because the organization simply outgrew its previous offices, which were housed in a 1936 building that once served as everything from a police station to an infirmary.

Located in the Midway district, the new facility is designed by architecture firm GFF to mirror the iconic Art Deco style that defines much of Fair Park. While the State Fair is footing the bill for construction and will handle ongoing maintenance, ownership of the building will ultimately reside with the city. Construction began about a year ago and is expected to wrap up this November, ensuring that fair operations have a modern base intended to last at least another five decades.

The investment comes at a critical time for Fair Park, which has suffered from years of neglect and requires hundreds of millions of dollars in urgent repairs and modernization. City officials are currently searching for ways to fund these upgrades, including proposals to develop nearby acreage for hotels and restaurants to create sustainable revenue streams. By amending its lease last year, the city allowed the State Fair to use private funds to establish this new hub without draining public coffers already strained by infrastructure failures across the park.

However, not everyone believes this single project goes far enough. Council member Adam Bazaldua noted that while he supports the new headquarters, there is a disconnect between the record revenues reported by the State Fair and the decaying state of some surrounding grounds. In response, fair representatives pointed out that they have contributed approximately 92 million dollars toward various improvements and scholarships over time, including significant payments toward renovating the Cotton Bowl. Despite these tensions, fair leadership insists they remain committed partners in ensuring that Fair Park remains a crown jewel for North Texas residents.
